I'm Joe, a self-taught visual artist based in Ipswich, UK.
My work is exhibited regularly in galleries across Suffolk and I have held three solo shows in Felixstowe.
I love to play with light and atmosphere. Most of my experience is with charcoal, which offers a sensitivity of touch that I still find endlessly versatile.
Through my art I hope to capture something of the magic of real life.
We pass by so many wonders all of the time: ever-shifting skies, buzzing night life, blinding billboards, reflections in glass, glittering lights in traffic...
Often it's the 'ordinary' settings that inspire me the most. Knowing that inspiration can hit at any time-- all I need to do is just look again.
I have been passionate about the possibilities of drawing for as long as I can remember.
I'm never happier than when I'm trying new kinds of art. Over the years I've taught myself through constant sketching; a practice which will always inspire me to seek new ventures.
Here's a picture of me at ten years old, with my comic strip characters, Fridge & Fly, whose adventures I have continued to this day.
At the age of 21 I had my first drawing accepted for the Pastel Society's show at The Mall Galleries.
I've had the pleasure of exhibiting my work in several galleries across Suffolk in the following years. Any updates on upcoming exhibitions can be found on the home page of the website.
